Who can help? A8 4.2 choking, loss of power!

Hey there,

New to the forum. Just got an issue I can't solve.
I have noticed since I got my Audi A8 D3 4.2 back from the mechanic, the car has played up twice in 2 weeks. After long drives (200km plus) and especially when climbing hills or ranges in my case. I put my foot down to cruise up the hill and she starts to choke/lose power. I feel like there is no petrol or air getting in. The best way I can explain it: It's like a whipper snipper is in the warm up (choke) position and you'd try to rev it up but the thing would choke out. The mechanic thinks it may be a petrol vapour issue. I don't as this shouldn't be an issue with the new engines these days, unlike the old carbi fed engines. The only couple of things I can think of would be the air sensor being dirty, the electronics playing up somewhere or those two round devices at the front of the engine that deliver extra power in some way (I don't know what they are called). I had those two bits fixed up by hand with a little solder weld and so on at mechanics 2 weeks ago- two new parts were quoted at $2000. Didn't want to spend $2k on two 10cm diameter plastic bits.

Anyway, if you have any ideas other than sending it to the Audi mechanics in Brisbane, I'd love to hear from you. The car has the work done at an Audi/VW/Porsche specialist mechanic- Maybe they are not quite the gig?
I am going to have a play with the car tomorrow and see what I can break! :p

Cheers
Ash
