Default 2013 / 2014 audi q5 trailer lights wiring

Gray wire with black tracer is for left signal. Solid gray wire is for right signal. solid yellow is for tail lights.

Gray with black tracer wire is on top orange plug.

Yellow wire is on middle black and pink plug.

Solid gray wire is on bottom black plug.

I have the remnants of some mistakes visible in my pictures, but hopefully you won't. The (usually red) wire for the brakes coming from the 3-to-2 converter module is not used. Wire the power wire to the battery and screw ground to car as usual.

Disclaimer: I am not a pro, but this worked for me.

Default Two gray wires - which one

I see 4 gray wires going into the lower section for the left signal...2 that have a tracer, and two plain gray ones. Is there a way to tell the gray ones apart??

Ok, was able to finally get some time to work on the wiring.

Bob Green is the correct for the newer models.

Trailer Wire - Audi Wire - Audi Plug - Function
Yellow - Gray / Black - Top Orange - Left Turn
Green - Solid Gray - Bottom Black - Right Turn
Brown - Yellow - Middle Black / Pink - Running Light

My problem is that I don't know where the Red wire (brakes) goes?

As for Cannoky....I got lucky with the Gray wire but my best guess the top of the 2 solid Gray wires.

Disregard Guys....I figured it out.

If you have US Spec tail lights the 3 wire I posted will works great.

If you Euro Spec lights (like I have) you have to hook the 4th (red) wire up.

If you need to hook the 4th wire up. I hooked mine to the unused spare Red Square plug. I tapped into the red / black wire. That worked for me.

Thanks again...BOB GREEN. I did the wrong way first too. Than did it your way and it worked. Was able to clean up it up before it got got too messy.

Dear danmontgomery
Which harness did you use ?.
I just got the modulite universal hd plus module 119190 kit for my 2015 q5.
Can you confirm that it will work ? I plan on using your / bob greens method and will be grounding the red wire along with the white. I do not have European lights

Ok
Just installed the 119190KIT using Bob green guide. It is working well.
I also spliced the reverse light wire for trailer surge brakes. It's the top right black wire in the top yellow plug

What are you guys using for a brake controller? I see a few references here and there, all dated, most with no response.

A little help? Have 2015 Q5 TDI. Need to fit brake controller to factory installed harness. Also want to add trailer battery charge circuit if not already enabled.

Any guidance/tips much appreciated.

I'm about to do this on my 2016 Q5 S-Line. I'll report back with photos and details.

I just installed my hitch today. The hitch itself was less than 2 hours. The wiring took a bit longer because I didn't read your post.

Got it now. I could do the whole thing in about 2 hours if I had to do it again.
