What do others do when stuff (wood 2x4x16) are too long and you just need to attach the rear hatch...

 

when the hatch is open as far as you want it, hold in the button. it will set a new auto open position for you. This was helpful for my short wife also. She couldn't reach the button when it was fully opened, so when I was going up I held the button and it reset the hatch to only open this far. Now she can reach it. Same holds true if you want to close the hatch most of the way when hauling long stuff. Just reset to normal position by lifting to there and holding the button in.
