Default Touareg TDi to Q7

My 2015 Touareg TDi lease is up soon. I really love the vehicle. Size, POWER, handling and ride.
This vehicle is now not an option and I wonder if I am making assumptions about the Q7 being similar in handling and power.
I want a similar experience but I come here to hear about similarities and differences between the 2015 Touareg TDi and a 2017 or more likely a 2018 Q7 with the 6 cyl powerplant.
Your input is appreciated.

I can share with you that I went from a 2010 Touareg TDI to a 2015 Q7 TDI as I turned in my Touareg on July 5.

The only thing one really gives up is about 1,100 pounds in towing. I can not tell you about the newer model years but the change for me was great. Much more content and a third row. With VW pulling the Touareg out of the US market and people beginning to engage in raise the price efforts on used Touareg TDI's I made the decision to change.

I am still learning the tricks of the Q7 but so far I am very pleased with my decision. Good luck with your decision

I went from a 2012 Q7 TDI to a new 2018 Q7. I assume, but am not sure, that my old 2012 Q7 TDI had a similar engine to your 2015 Toureg TDI. If that's the case, you'll love the 2018 Q7. It is much snappier/peppier with the throttle than the TDI was, so it feels much quicker. The 2018 is amazingly quiet and smooth and rides beautifully. Btw, I have the Prestige with air suspension for the 2018 Q7, which is what I had on the 2012 version as well.
I tow a 5500 lb travel trailer in Utah and the mountains. The 2012 Q7 TDI towed it amazingly well, even over some significant passes where semis slow down to 50 mph or less. I was, and remain, somewhat concerned about how well the 2018 gas-engine Q7 will tow in comparison. I have not had a chance to test it extensively, as I am still in the break-in period and haven't taken a trip yet. I did, however, have to move my travel trailer to a different storage location, which involved a few miles of rather steep neighborhood streets. The new Q7 ran a lower gear with higher RPM (as expected) but pulled the trailer well at those lower speeds. I figure even if I have to tow slightly slower up the big passes a few times a year, the added enjoyment of driving the new 2018 Q7 vs the 2012 TDI all the other days of the year will make up for it!
