Default "Left Bank Catalyst" CEL Code... Please advise

Hi guys,

I just remembered, there was a 'Left Bank Catalyst' code that my FWD 180HP chipped TT was throwing, just wanted to know if anyone could advise...

I know it's the cat, but I'd like to know this: I was under the impression that I had one exhaust pipe, and my cats are in sequence (one after the other) on that pipe.

Is this the left bank of the last cat? Will this code limit the car's performance at all?

Thanks!

It's probably your CAT. How many miles are on your car? If it's less than 68,000, Audi covers the CAT's due to a government recall. Mine were bad and Audi replaced them and there was a total difference in the performance.

Yes, I am well under 68,000 on a 2002 TT.

I am relatively sure that the extent of the work done to my car is a chip and DV. Will Audi pitch a fit over this; am I safe to even bring this into them with mods, or are they going to get fussy?

you will need to remove the mods or they wont do any warranty work on it, they will blame the mods for the damage just don give them that opportunity

Think i mentioned in your other thread about cats, the pipe splits to 2 cats, side by side, and then rejoins before the resonator. Sounds like to actually need to get under the car and see what sensors are where. I'd start with the left one.... ; )

Ack, well I can't really remove the mods, seeing as how I don't have the original parts and the car is chipped... The CEL has been cleared; if it returns, I'll fix it myself.

... and, come to think of it, how in the heck can they blame the chip and DV for causing problems... ON A GOV'T RECALL? From what I understand, it doesn't matter what they say, they HAVE to replace the cats. Am I wrong?

BTW, achTTung, I must have skimmed your post too quickly; now that I know the exhaust splits into 2 side-by-side cats, I can more easily determine what's wrong

Also! The electronically-actuated exhaust diverter valve which I plan to use to bypass the cats (assuming successful testing of the vehicle with a straight pipe) will be an even easier install now, and free up even more pressure than I originally anticipated...

Someone please do comment on the gov't recall thing, though... I would think that they CAN'T say no.

May not actually be a Cat failure, but just a bad O2 sensor. The post cat sensor will throw a code when it starts to fail. Try replacing it before you go for the big expense with the cats.

If it is your CAT's and the car is under 68,000 miles, Audi has to replace them free of charge. Even if you don't have a warranty. I have an extended warranty on my A6 but didn't have to turn it into the warranty company because of this recall. This was nice because I didn't have to pay my $100 deductible. If this part was not covered by Audi, it costs a freakin' fortune to have them replaced. If you take your car in to have it looked at and they mention the CAT, just advise them that you are aware of the recall.
