2003 TT w/ tranny issues for cheap or 2004 TT?

I'm new here and this is my first post. I'm interested in getting a TT and need advice and maybe a reality check in making the right choice.

First car is a red 2003 TT coupe (180hp) auto w/ 165k on the odo. Ad says it's in cherry condition, clean title, and second owner. Price is $5600 but it has transmission problem. Seller said she thinks it's a sensor. Car is driveable but shifts hard and won't go faster than 50mph without revving. Are we talking about a serious and expensive problem here? Worth getting if the fix is cheap? Given the high mileage and say it will need a new tranny, I would need to get the price lower to make it feel like I got a good deal. What should I ask for this car with tranny issue and high mileage?

Second car is a 2004 dolomite (sp?) grey TT coupe (180hp) auto w/ 112 on the odo. Pictures shows it to be super clean. This car is from a dealer. Price is $9700. 2003 and up TT models are usually in the $10k+. Is this car a steal or is the mileage consistent with the price?

I'm looking for a coupe (no convertible) and smaller engine for gas economy. I don't care for the AWD or higher hp. Do you think the 2003 will be a good investment if the car can be fixed easily? Someone told me it could be some tranny module issue that will cost around $1200 to fix.
