Ahh man! Crappy luck
Just barely limped home after something on the freeway flipped up and went to town on my under carriage! i couldnt avoid it...I was in the far left lane and a car was beside me. Slamming on the breaks doing 70 in the rain on the freeway....not a good deal...so I just winced. Pulled over looked around thought everything was fine....then I smelled gas. That damn thing ripped a hole in my gas tank! Hopefully insurance will cover it. Who knows.

Lets hope. That really sucks. Any idea what it was cause that seems like a difficult task

You're telling me! By the time I saw the 4-5' piece as the car in front missed it...it was too late. Looked like the remains of a bumper left from an earlier accident. It was sticking out in the lane about 3'.
I let the remaining 1/4 tank drain into a pan. It's decent damage, peeled back the thin sheet metal heat shield and punctured the tank near the exhaust resonator on my catback. Insurance is covering it, $500 deductable. Not bad considering what little research I have done on costs.....I've read an average repair cost is up to the $2700 range. It's getting towed to Redmond Werkshop on Monday. I have to call the fire dept to get them to look at it and pass it safe for towing. I need a form from them to provide the towing company. Here is a pic of a 225 tank. Where I circled is where the shield got peeled back and the puncture area. |

Yikes. Glad you didn't get into a crash with a swerve or something, and that it's going to get resolved with insurance.
