Default boost gauge mounting help

So I have a boost gauge and didnt want to vent mod mount it so a little fiberglass and I came up with this...

Will mount right here...

My question is when people vent mount a gauge how do you route the hose to the engine bay? My hope is I can put it down through the little defrost vent into the front vent and into the lower dash area and then into the engine bay. Think that is possible?

Thanks.

i had a liquidTT but im going to be putting in an autometer sport comp2 boost gauge instead. Usually there is a grommit you can run your vac line through to the engine bay.

that pod is really nice. How difficult was it to make?
also are you actually in chicago or are you outside of it? Im south of chicago in Normal Illinois by ISU

I think I know where that grommit is but how do you get to that from the far left vent?

It wasnt that hard to make, just takes alittle time. If you want I can give you fairly detailed steps LMK.

I went to ISU, graduated in 07. Now live in Schaumburg.

Pop off the lower dash, remove the headlight switches and OBD port then pull out the far left vent with your fingernails (whole silver assembly will come out). If you can route the vac/12V wire from the defrost vent to inside the far left vent it should be able to drop straight down into the lower dash area. The grommit is above the brake pedal mount in the firewall.

Search for a TT vent gauge install for pics. I know there is one on AW and Vortex. You could also use the AWE PDF for their vent gauge. I believe it's still posted on their site.

I ran my wires/tubing thru the ventilation pipe at one point, and out of the little defrost vent. Its a weird fiberglassy plastic stuff. I didn't want to tear a bunch of stuff out to drill, so I just spun a drill bit in my fingers, and it was enough to put a hole thru it.

BTW, that is THE BEST looking gauge mounting solution I've ever seen for a TT. I'm envious. I'd be interested in a writeup as well, or at least the steps for moulding the profile of the dash.

Wow, Thank you. I should have taken pictures during the process but didnt.

Started off taking some plaster of paris, put it in a bag, set it on the dash there or whereever you are going to have your gauge pod. (Try to smooth out the bottom of the bag as much as possible to avoid creases.) Let it dry. Then put some more plaster in another bag and set the first bag into it. So I took the "negative" and made a "positive" mold of the dash. This let me lay fiberglass onto the mold and avoid any chance of spill or whatever in my car. Trim it up but leave it alittle big, its easier to go smaller not bigger, and you should have a piece that will fit perfectly onto the dash. Then I put my gauge in a bag and fiberglassed around it. Took these 2 pieces to my car and played with them until I liked the angle the gauge was pointing at and a little glue to hold those 2 together. The top/back I made by using a little thin cardboard to approx. the shape I wanted and fiberglassed over it. Then just a thin coat of bondo sanding and paint.

dang thats clever lol!!!
there is another TT that has a 3 gauge thing molded on his dash similar to that. I think i like the single (yours) better
how are you going to secure it to your dash? i doubt you will drill maybe like 3m double sided tape stuff or what?

Yeah, it actually doesnt move unless you use the loud pedal in low gears. Planning on just using a couple small pieces of double sided adhesive.

Thanks everyone for the help, hoping to have this thing finished up soon.
