Brake problems continue...
 

I got my new rear rotors (zimmermanns- thanks for the advice!) in today and put them on without a hitch. Now my problem is that when I go to put on the new pads over the new rotors I cannot for the life of me get the caliper to fit down over the new pads. I have the piston pushed back in as far as i can get it to go. My old pads where worn down pretty low when i took them off so I am wondering if I need to adjust the parking brake. If so does anyone know how i would go about doing that? Thanks.

First make sure you got the correct pads. I think all the quattros have the same brakes, but I'm not positive. What pads did you get?

Then, are you using the special brake caliper tool (needed for the rears)? You opened the brake fluid resevar too, correct?

It's been about 18 months since I did mine (zimmermann rotors and hawk pads) and remember it was a tight fit, but fit. I didn't adjust the parking brake and it felt the same before and after.

Thanks for the input. The pads are correct, I went with Mintex red box. i am using the correct tool and rotated the piston in as far is it will go with the cap off the master cylinder res. The piston will not screw in anymore. The piston just seems like it needs to go back about another 1/4 of an inch for the caliper to slide down over the pads. It just seems like I've read somewhere about having to adjust the parking brake when doing the rears. Thanks.

hmmm... weird, it sounds like your are correct and may need to adjust the p-brake.

Just one last idea: Did you scrape off all the old glue/sticker/anti-squeek stuff that the old pads left on the calipers?

yeah, there was a little left on the calipers but i cleaned all that off. we're really just talking like a fraction of an inch so i assume i may just need to loosen the tension on the parking brake but i have no clue how to do so. thanks.
