Launch it, and get out to look at the tire marks! That'll tell ya if it works!
On a serious note, tell them you want to drive some curvy roads. Get a feel for the handling with the traction control on and off.
I'm not sure of any other way to see if it works on a test drive.

Ask for service records, carfax if you haven't already. Check the tire tread and rims, be on the look out of curb rash.
As far as listening goes, well, I've come to notice that when something is wrong, the car will let you know.
Like Honking from the DV. High pitch squeal on a cold start from the secondary air pump. You'll know if something isn't right.

Look to see if any lines are missing from the LCD display.
That's really all I can think of for now. Best of luck! I hope all works out, and you have a nice drive back!

Details to check, just randomly off the top of my head:

-Seat heaters, make sure both work, they tend to die.
-CD changer magazine...make sure it's there $30 if it isn't
-Hatch cover...make sure it's there...looks ugly without it IMO
-Alien washers (turn on headlights, pull wiper stalk like to spray windshield and hold it). If they don't work, it might be a coverup for a washer fluid leak...which you should also check for. If the yellow "volcano" is at the top of the LCD, the fluid's likely leaking...don't count on it just being low.
-Make sure the DV works. Get it into 5th and floor it then let off around 2,xxx RPM. If you hear a fluttery noise the DV may be toast and you're getting compressor surge. Mine came with a busted DV and I only found out 6000 miles later.
-If you think you're getting compressor surge, ask to open the airbox and rev it, or to pull the DV from the intake hose and rev it...if you hear the flutter with open intake, it's surging. If the DV doesn't blow any air out when the engine's reved...it's toast. $60 to replace, $130 to upgrade.
-Check for curb rash. It's nasty looking yet often overlooked.
-Check for any roof leaks...mine came with a leak in the hatch at the very top. Good way to do this is take a hose to it.
-Make sure all the seat adjustments work. The passenger's side reclining **** didn't work on mine, but the dealer fixed it before I got the car.
-Make sure the windows go up/down like 1/2" when you open/shut the doors. My passenger's side didn't...dealer fixed it while fixing some harness or something. But it could be a sign of electrical problems and could ruin your windows.
-Make sure you don't smell a sorta burning ceramic smell...like brake smell...that=fried clutch. I had mine replaced under warranty cuz some ******* at the dealer banged the gears to hell.
-Check and make sure all the climate control works right. All the things to aim the airflow are fiddly electrical things so it wouldn't surprise me if they broke.
-Make sure fuel cap/hatch buttons in bottom of center console work. Kinda screwed if they don't.
-Check for any burnt out bulbs, they can be a pain to replace in the front from what I hear...rear lights are simple to remove.
-Check headlight alignment. If they are misaligned it may have been in a wreck, perhaps a small one.
-Check body panel alignment all around, it's just good practice...
-Take a peek at the engine covers and screws...my screws are all messed up and my one cover's cracked. 42DD sells a metal hardware kit for $100 that I want/need badly lol

dont forget to mention the timing belt to em. it need sto be replaced at 60k . i would try to have them replace it or drop the cost about a grand.. and make sure the windows all seal properly, mine had wind noise. double check the console for missing lines, dont buy it with them screwed up. hmmn what else?( thinking........................)check the undercariage for cracks, rust and stuff. i'd say spend a good hour overlooking thwe whole car. ANDMAKE SURE TO GET AN EXTENDED WARANTY!!!!. thats all, good luck and god speed.

looks great!

When you push the ESP button on the dash, a yellow triangle with a circle around it will light up on the RPM side of your cluster, when the light is on it means the ESP is off... the ESP will always be on when you start the car, and you'll notice if you loose grip or traction in your tires the light will flash indicating ESP had to correct the problem

Thanks for all your help!!! Ill have to check it when i get it back here cus i didnt look to see where the esp was....If something major wasnt running right with the drivetrain regardless if i knew what lights to look for im pretty sure i would have noticed funy noises or felt something off..ill assume. BUt everything was smooth and crisp so ill just have to play with the buttons when i get it here.
