Default Code 01203 - ABS module failed?

Hello Everyone,
I have an Audi TT 2000 with the following issue:
- ABS and ESP light both ON: it is intermittent, sometimes they are ON at key on, sometimes after a few minutes of driving.
When they are not on, it may happen that at low speed the brake pedal start vibrating/kicking.

My mechanic has checked the 4 ABS sensors and they are ok, he got the code 01203 from scanning the ABS Module. My questions:
1) I guess it all points to the Module, right? He has excluded also the MAF because he did not find any code related to that
2) Is it safe to drive with those lights on? Does it mean that the car is going to brake in a "standard" way without ESP and ABS assistance, or this condition could stress in the long term the brake system?

thanks in advance for the answers
y.
