Default DIY Intercooler Question

Hello,

I will be doing my own intercooler set-up and i need some input from you guys. What do you think about this Ebay intercooler ?

http://cgi.ebay.ca/INTERCOOLER-Polis...QQcmdZViewItem

The endtanks are on the same side and it says its rated at 1200 CFM. If the dimensions fit, i think i will be ordering something along these lines.

Treadstone makes good cores that you can get the same side inlet/outlets. They either use garrett or bell cores. Not sure of the website, but google treadstone performance and/or treadstone intercooler and you will find it. The one you want is the 16" or 18", it's the 2nd smallest. Much better than the xoxo or just intercoolers on ebay. Treadstone can also be found on ebay, for much cheaper than their site! Good luck with it! This is for a 180 right? The 225 or A4 will need a straight through style.

hey a little bump on this... im new and searched for a lot of DIY for sizes on a intercooler... i was just wondering some good sizes to get for the 180... and if all new piping also has to be bought as well as what was a good way to pipe... alluminum or silicone maybe from samco... i dont really feel like paying 1000 bucks for a FMIC

just remmeber thata fmic for a gti/jetta will work with some minor work for a FWD TT. The best upgrade for a fwd tt'er that doesnt want to spend a butt load or wants to keep the ic hidden, Boostfactory makes a great smic that is good for ~400hp. The best part is that it is justa direct replacement for a stock unit and cost is only $550 shipped!

you should be able to keep the aliens and the engine will be fine, it will still get airflow through the fmic and through the grill.

go with something like this

you will need bends like that. You may have to do some trimming since i think the treadstone ic are a little thicker. go with thisor i prefer this. Keep the 2" bends to the inlet and go 2.5" on the outlet. In the pic above the top is the inlet and bottom is the outlet. Not sure if you can switch it, i would try flipped first.
