engine light flashes when accelerating-car stutters
 

I have a 2000 TT. When i try to go to high rpms instantly-on 2nd 3rd or 4th gear the car starts to stutter and the check engine light flashes...after i switch to the next gear the engine light disappears and then if i push it again to high rpms the check engine light flashes again and the car stutters...

any suggestions?

misfire issue -

My guess is bad plugs.

I have the same issue with my 2000. It starts to shutter right at 14 lbs of boost. I hooked a vag up to it and came back with a misfire on cylinder 4, then I moved the coil from 4 to 1 and the misfire was on one. Ordered a set of coils that just came in yesterday. I'll change them out tonight and let you know if that fixed the problem. Sounds like we are having the same issue though.

I would say check the coil packs. Mark 4 cars are notorious for failed coils (I just replaced mine with hitachi bolt down coils).

95% chance it is the spark plugs. Replace them and MAKE SURE THEY ARE GAPPED CORRECTLY, see the faq.

Definitly sounds like classic coil pack issues. If you have a VW or Audi parts dealer near you just buy one and switch them out one by one with the new one and test drive each time. Sounds like a PITA but I did this in a half an hour. Worst case senario is you wasted a half an hour of your life...gaurantee you will end up using the coil at some point even if it is not the cause. Also as stated previously check the plugs. I change mine every oil change.

changed my coils last night and put in new E3 plugs but that didn't fix the problem. I think it might be the new plugs, however. I'm changing them back to the ones that were in there before.

Make sure the plugs are gapped correctly. This is very important. The gapping specs are in the faq.

You cannot gap the E3 plugs, but I think they might be all hype so I am going to get some NGK or denso plugs next.
