Default Exaust quesion?

I recently got a custom 2 1/4 inch cat back exhaust with magnaflow muffler . Periodically it will backfire, or pop after shifting. Is this a problem or just some sort of back pressure? It normally happens at lower rpms.

Just out of curiosity, why did you go with 2¼" if you went custom instead of going bigger to 2¾"-3"? If you're having it custom made, why not go ahead and get the power increase with it?

Yeah, i probably should have gone with a 3". I Wasnt real familiar with audis, most other turbo cars dont really get much help if any from a 3" exhaust on a stock turbo, some even slow thier cars down, at least on the bottom end of the rpm band. How much more power should i see fom a 3" as opposed to my 2 1/4"? I may be getting a dp soon, so i could switch to 3" then.

Anyways, is the popping noise normal? it started to occur after i got the exhaust.

i would check coil packs... spark plugs... timing... stuff like that. If installed right a cat back change shouldn't cause that.

how does the magnaflow sound?
is there a part# on the muffler?
i had a custom 3" done last week, catback is straight piped.
this sucker is too darn loud. i was told by the shop that i should get some power with it but weighing the consequences, i'd rather go for a low mellow sound and sacrifice som power.

anyone have a suggestion on a muffler? or resonator?
tia

i think a backfire every now and then would be ghetto...

smkn951 - I almost ran straightpipes myself but i came to the realization that it would be way too loud... I think im going with a blueflame because i love the sound andit also provides positive gains.

the shop i went to had a blue flame banner outside so i assum that they sell this stuff.
like i mentioned i had a 3" cat back fabricated with no resonator nor muffler. freakin loud....
i'm having trouble locating a resonator for it.
does anyone know of such a place that sells resonators that'll fit the ttqr?
thanks

Depends on which flowmaster muffler you put on I would say and if you deleted the resonator. When I put my Borla on I had just the cat there and started it like that. It would back fire/pop and going from high revs and letting it drop would do the popping. In every turbo application I have ever heard with a more open exhaust, you're gonna get the pops (I love em)

Stock exhaust is sooo restrictive and has the Cat/Resonator/Muffler to baffle all of that. No harm no foul
