Default glovebox won't close. adjust what?

Hey guys
Just got a 2001 TT today and the glovebox is open. I tried emptying it and still doesn't close. Latches on both ends work fine. Wondering if the holes are misaligned due to cold weather? What can I do to fix it?

Also, another quick question. There are some rattling noise in the rear. Sounds like it is coming from the trunk or maybe the C pillar. Sounds like loose trim or something along that line... Anything that usually goes loose easily there?

Thanks... All help are much appreciated.

Haha. Thanks for that info. I figured it was the C pillar...
Anyone knows why the glovebox doesn't latch properly though? It is so weird because the mechanism itself works fine. It just doesn't go in the hole?

Any luck on getting the glove box to shut? Mine started falling down over bumps, now it won't shut at all.. I've looked for a solution but it seems like they're usually stuck shut not open..

I actually had this exact same problem.

What I did, was take off the glove box entirely. Took some time, but its really only a couple of screws.

When it's off, on the back there are two screws at opposite sides on the very bottom. Loosen them up. Try opening and and closing the glovebox again. It should fit in the holes this time. And when its closed, just tighten up the screws.

I did that and put the glovebox back into place and it worked perfectly.

My glovebox will shut if I roughly slam it shut.

I have that same rear vibration noise, but my car also have poly mounts.

Default Glovebox won't stay shut

Having same problem with my glovebox not shutting completely...it stays up till you hit a bump and it pops open...seems like the two rods on both sides off the glovebox are not going into the hole...I took the trim off the inside of the glovebox to investigate the problem...there doesn't seem to be any serrated adjustments...it either goes in the hole or not..my case..not! what screws are you talking about to loosen up...?? Are they the ones that are underneath on hinges that appear to hold the glovebox in place?

Bringing back an old thread.

I had the same problem with my 2001 TT convertible. I simply removed and replaced the right side 'clip' where the closing rod goes. It's a separate piece inside the glove box. Easy to remove and easy to replace. It just needs to be moved away from the edge a bit and the rod will catch.

Worked for me. Couple months have passed now and the glove box stays shut over even the roughest roads.
