So yeah, I was downtown at a friends bachelor party and my car got keyed. Does anyone have any guess at what this will cost me to fix. It's all the way through the paint. I think for a temp fix I'm going to get some touch up paint, wet sand, and buff.
It was some drunk emo asshat from a lame emo club near by I just know it.
Do you think this is going to cost more than a grand? God, I hope not.

Honestly - I think you will be able to get away with a Good Buff job on that. Any local doll up shops or car dealers you can get in touch with?
I'm optimistic with that since when I was in autobody - we brought my friends Celica in that had deep dog scratches on the sides and bumper, and we were able to buff the scratches out and get it hot enough to sorta "melt" the paint to cover up the unfortunate mishaps of his pets. Car still looks great and required no painting/clear coat. Just an intense Buff job of the whole car.

I have a pretty bad scratch on my car so I'm anxious to see what you find out. I dread having to take it to be painted as it covers more than one quarterpanel (just as yours does)

Some people feel that if they damage something you earned... it will make them feel better about not earning anything. Once again, sorry to hear about your misfortune.

 

i would file an insurance claim. it shouldn't raise your deductible because you were not even in the car. Plus... they will repaint the whole side like new.

If anyone ever key'd my car like that and I found them, I would give them the beating of a lifetime. - I'd seriously have to be hauled away by the cops. - Messing with another mans ride is just flat out unacceptable. - Its like kicking a guy in the nuts. - I have no respect for people like that.

id key their facemuch harder to fix a face then a car... and more expensive

 

wetsand with 1500grit and wax, should get rid of that. I had a tree limb fall on my hood and it was about like that and it cured it right up.

 

I was a detailer for a few years, so I'm fairly handy with a buffer. I have high hopes. I just need to find the time.

As for the insurance... my deductible is $2500. I used to drive a Nissan 240sx with only liability, and when I bought this car the jump in insurance was huge. I took the highest deductible to get a break. Oops
