Default HID Headlight Issue

2003 Audi TT Coupe with HID headlights.

I recently purchased an 03 TT with 64k mileage. I noticed the passenger headlight would not work all the time and I would get the bulb out message on the dash. The dealership replaced the relays, bulb, and swapped the ballast to see if it would make the driver side headlight malfunction. Following the swap, the passenger headlight still has issues. It's about 50/50 whether it will turn on. I would really appreciate any feedback before I bring the car back to the dealership.

Dealership has ordered a new headlight assembly...advised there was an issue with the internal wiring.

I have this same problem on the drivers side. Good to note that it is a short in the headlight assembly rather than ballast replacement. Will just now have to pop the assembly out *sigh*

Based on what the dealer told me...it is more likely that the ballest is bad. You're having issues with the driver's side - You could try swapping the driver's side ballest with the passenger side...if you still have issues with the driver's side, then you will know it's the headlight assembly...if it causes issues with the passenger's side, then you will know it's the ballest.

Best of luck to you. Lucky for me, I just purchased the vehicle and the dealership covered everything under warranty, but I hear both a ballest or headlight assemby can be very expensive (several hundred dollars).
