RE: How much boost is too much?
i wish aTiTude was still on the forums=-but i would like to add that i hit up to 14-15lbs of boost with my mods. i hope the car is not chipped (havnt taken my ecu out yet)
and on easy throttle i get up to 9-10 lbs just normal driving. i hope this is correct since i never had a boost gauge before i started modding (bad idea) i think a boost gauge should be the first mod anyone does. |
RE: How much boost is too much?
i knwo i definatly need a boost gauge..but i want to be runnin like 15lbs after i chip it but i know a chip doesnt give that much..so how can i turn it up with out a boost controller..cause ive heard some sketchy things about boost controllers

Has anyone else looked into this? I just looked all over my engine and I never saw a dial to turn up the boost. does anyone have a pic. or can lead me in the right direction?

RE: How much boost is too much?
I have a 2000 180hp tt, that has a chip and a borla exhaust.
How do i know where my boost is? Is there a gauge built in somewhere.. How do i know where my psi is? (I just got this car 2 weeks ago, Sorry for the stupid questions) Also where is this device your using to up your boost? My car is abnormally fast....with intake and exhaust...maybe the previous owner already bumped it up?... I dont want to damnage my engine.... Thanks guys! |

RE: How much boost is too much?
Boost is not something you can change by turning a knob. Boost is the pressure created in your engine. Too much boost will blow up valves, hoses, and other important pieces. There are devices used to adjust and regulate the boost pressure called boost controllers. You simply dont want to be running 23psi of boost constantly that would be bad. Our cars can handle up to 26psi and at that point and byond is where things start going wrong if you dont have the right parts. To up your boost you need one thing the boost machine found here and an optional upgrade item is the n75 valve which is responsible for controlling the movement of the pneumatic actuator which drives the wastegate. The wastegate is an internal valve in the turbo which controls the amount of exhaust gas that flows over the turbo impeller generating boost.
