I Have A Question PLEASE help
 

hi am am looking at a 2001 audi tt 225 it has had the timing belt changed 20,000 miles (car currently has 86000 miles on it). i am a middle class citizen and make ok money. but i save enogh to buy this car i want to know if the cars are dependable. if someone could tell what frequently goes ou on them (if so )or if there are any after market parts that help them be more dependable. and the cost of some of the frequent problems that go wrong with them. i really want this car can someone please help thanks

i have the same year and model with about the same mileage. about to hit 90k :/ but they are pretty reliable for the most part. and its good that the timing belts already done. that'll save you around 2 grand from not having to have it done after you buy it.

lag isnt an issue... unless you consider full boost before 3k lag


to make it spool faster you could do a downpipe and exhaust

Mgounaris...I don't agree with your statement, "its good that the timing belts already done". It was done almost 70,000 miles ago which is way beyond recommended interval. It will have to be done ASAP again.

You also have to wonder why it was done so early...i.e. did it break and ruin the engine??

^^^ I also would NOT trust that timing belt. Why would someone change it so early? I think they might be bs'ing you about it. It'll cost about $1k to change the timing belt and related parts again.

Repairs and maintance are about the same as other cars in its class (BMW, Benz, ect). Repairs are much more expensive and common then cars such as: Chevy, ford, Dodge, honda, toyota, ect. You can't expect an $10k tt to be the same upkeep cost of a $10k civic. This is the problem most people have. They think they can afford a $10k car, but don't remember it was once a $40k car and repairs/parts are not going to be cheep.

im sorry i said that wrong the car has 86,000 and the belt was changed 20,000 miles ago (66,000). how often do the timing belts go out? thanks for the help guys

theyre good for at least 60k so you are fine... i pushed mine to the limit and did it at 95k... dont do that lol... audi says theyre good to 120 but anything over 60k and youre pushing the car hard is pushing your luck with it snapping. If that happens you will need a new motor
