Default Instrument Cluster / Engine Starting issue

Good morning.

Generally, I have had the standard problems with my instrument cluster. My gas gauge has been weird, my center display has missing lines, and acts weird, etc. However, as of yesterday morning, I have an entirely new problem. It's only happened twice, but twice in two days is an unsettling development. When I go to start my car, it starts, but it feels and sounds like it really just doesn't want to, kind of like trying to start a car when it's low on gas, how it turns over very slowly before finally kicking to life? As soon as I get the car on, I notice new problems on the instrument cluster. The date and time have been reset, as well as my trip odometer. My standard odometer is still accurate. I don't think it's a battery issue, because my radio presets aren't lost when the instrument cluster resets. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would actually try the battery. Just because your presets are ok, doesen't mean the battery voltage isn't low. Plus batterys are cheep and easy to replace. You can have autozone test it for free.

I see. I'll definitely get it checked out, then. Thanks.

Well, about two hours ago, I decided to go ahead and drive to AutoZone to get my battery tested. Car wouldn't start, battery was dead. Got it replaced, and it's working fine now.

Thanks!

See my quote on replacing a 1999 A6 Q battery. In doing so always MAINTAIN POWER TO THE COMPUTER or big bucks.

Could you be more specific? I changed my battery that day and haven't had any problems.

I would guess if you leave the car without a battery for a long time the ecu/security resets.
