Instrument Cluster Problems

The cluster functions normally all summer but once the outside temp goes below 50 degrees the overheat icon on the center display will come on for several minutes when I start the car. I don't think this is a temp sensor problem because the date and time on the cluster will reset about the same time. I think this is an issue with an intermittent connection on the cluster. Before I ship the cluster off to Module Master to be rebuild I wanted to see if anyone has had the same problem and what they did to fix it.

Check to make sure your battery isn't about dead. Low voltages can mess with the temp gauges and sensors.

Battery

Thanks. I don't think it would be a battery problem since it has been going on for several years but I will check my terminals for corrosion and check the battery voltage just in case.

The date/Time reset on mine when I don't start it for extended periods of time (a month or so), likely because the battery voltage has gotten low. Do you notice the issue less when the car is driven often?

Battery

Mine is strictly temperature related. It is fine all summer and when fall comes and the temp gets below 50 the overheat icon pops up almost every time I start the car and the date and time will reset several times over the winter.

I'll start with the easy things first. I'll check the battery cables and voltage. I was thinking about taking the instrument cluster out far enough to get at the connections and verify that they are properly seated.

Thanks again.

if your car has a black orig coolant sensor try replacing it with a green top $17, just did my 01 TT also did former 01 jetta, it was a common issue
