Default Intercooler Questions?

Looking for a intercooler set up that will also work when I go big turbo in a little bit. My question is has anyone tried a Beetle or Mk4 intercooler set up? They seem very similar, but I am newb when it comes to the TT, to be honest. Also if I use a custom fabbed set up, would a regular core be a good idea or use a core that enters and exits on the same side for simplicity?

A gti setup will fit with some work. The single side inlet/outlet has a greater pressure drop and is hard to find a good size core and at a reasonable cost. You can get a much nicer core in a traditional style core for a reasonable price. Also dont forget piping diam and core size play a huge role in ic setup.

Would it be easier/cheaper to buy a GTI/Beetle kit and get a couple extra bends or go full custom?

~I am shooting for 350whp eventually, with a Super 60 and rods. Currently just trying to go one step at a time.

you are not going to get to 350whp with a s60. You will need a pushed gt28rs min or a gt2871r or 50trim to do it easier. just comes down to if you want a great fit with little work or spend some time making it fit. Just dont go making a bunch of connections.

I wanted to stay on GT30 frame, but I had a cheap Super60 lined up. Well, a massaged GTI kit will run around $400 with a decent core. A local shop quoted me $350 for just piping and I provide the core.

~50/50 right now...

a gt3071r is a great choice. You can run a s60 now and then easily swap it for a 3071r down the rod when you have the rods in. That $400 kit is no good for anything over 250whp (if that) with the large core. There is very little cooling fins on the inside and the iat's will be high causing you to lose power due to heat and timing pull.
