Default intermittent low battery warning

I just bought my wife a used 2002 TT 180hp a few months ago. It had an issue today that was a little odd. While driving, a warning light came up in the center display of the cluster that looked like a battery. When the clutch was pushed in, all the lights dash lights went dim. I let the clutch back out while still doing 30 mph and all the lights got brighter, but the warning light stayed on. I then started to accelerate and went down the freeway at 70 mph. The warning light went off and has been off since(5 more miles of driving including some stop and go in town). Got home, shut if off. Restarts fine no warning light on. The interesting part to me is that the "battery" warning light on the dash with the key on engine off is located on the right side of the dash. That warning light never came on. Only the one in the top section of the center digital display above the ambient temp reading. Anyone had this problem before?
