Default MK1 TT fuel economy

Hey guys

I have just bought a TT its a 2000 180q with 60,000 kms on it.It seems rather thirstyI get about 350kms per tank and 95% of my driving is city. I did a tune up changed the plugs air filter and got an oil change but its still about the same fuel economy. Is this normal for the engine? Engine temp seems normal its doesn't smell like it is running rich and I don't bag on it at all and I know haveing quattro isn't always ideal for fuel usage but it isn't always on. what are you guys getting?

thanks in advance.

You have to stay out of boost to get the best gas milage. When the turbo is spooling, the mpg goes way down. If you drive it hard, you are looking at about 15-20mpg city but will have over 30mpg on the highway

when i bought my car (2000 180Q 5speed manual, 100k miles)

i was getting a steady 22-23MPG. After replacing the original pre-cat O2 sensor and the original blue coolant temp sensor, it got bumped up to 24-25MPG mixed driving.

hmmm well when i first got my 225 i was getting about 400 miles to the tank (225s have 16.3 gallon tanks) or roughly 24.5 miles to the gallon.

now that im chipped and a few other mods i am seeing around 350 miles to the tank, or roughly 21.5 miles to the gallon. of course i dont know if the chip is the cause of the problem, or that i just seem to drive it a lot more aggressively than before?

like others have said, keep the RPMs below 3000 to prevent the turbo from kicking in and robbing you of mileage.

haha well yeah, i didnt say it it would be FUN- in fact keeping it below 3K would be quite grandfatherly. but if you wanna save gas? keep it below 3K.

personally i always try to keep it OVER 3K =)
