Motor Oil
Not to start a painful thread about engine oil....but I am new to the TT and I am going to do my first oil change and I am not sure what viscosity to buy. So far the only data I have found is full synthetic 0W-30 or 5W-30. I also found 0W-40 and 5W-40. I'm going the synthetic route regardless.
I live in Northern Maryland and the rig has 110K on the clock. I'm not planning to drive her to the desert southwest or go to Canada any time in the near future. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! John |
Either the 5-30 or 5-40 would be fine as long as it meats VW/Audi 502 00 requirements. I personally use Luqui Moly Full Synthetic oils. They even have right on there label the manufactures approved numbers & it is made in Germany.

Good stuff, but mail order motor oil is a bit painful. Throw on $12-15 for shipping and I feel like heading to W-Mart to score some Mobil 1. That may be the ticket in the long run.
Bradd Penn anyone? |
Locally you can get Castrol syntech 5w40 and Mobil1 0w40. Both full syn.

Should I be using 0W-40 for winter and 5W-40 for summer??

What are you guys using for manual transmission fluid these days?
|
Redline MT 90 is most often used even though vw claims the fluid is lifetime

Went to the auto parts store and they did not have Redline, Mobil 1 synthetic was on sale for $6.00 a quart - The Royal Purple was $19.99 a quart, they do have a cool looking container but I'm not sure if it's worth 3 times the price of a Mobil 1 product.
I can try Pep Boys to see if they carry Redline, according to Redline's website they're supposed to be an authorized seller of their products. |
