It's a problem that is not uncommom. The search function will steer you towards prior posts. There are firms that sell refurbs in lieu of spending really big dough for OEM replacements.

These guys $250 to rebuild yours

http://www.bba-reman.com/catalogue/D...ledProduct=280

I've seen used clusters on EBay, but who knows what condition they are in.

Looks like you're S.O.L. for the LCD repair...from BBA's EBay listing...

This is for a repair ofYOUR unit. We do not stock this item.
Common Symptoms of a Faulty Unit:
Audi TTinstrument clusters commonly fail by the fuel and temperature gauges reading incorrectly and/or some or all gauges not registering when the vehicle is first turned on. Also illumination of the whole cluster or behind the odometer and time/date display can fail. It sometimes causes interior lights to flicker or the vehicle not to start. The center display can also develop lines making it unreadable.

Note: At the present time we are not repairing problems with the center display.
This is fora rebuild of your cluster. As each cluster is unique, an own unit rebuild avoids the need for re-programming and key coding, saving you money. All work is covered by a lifetime warranty.
FAQs
Q. How does a rebuild and return work?
A. You send your unit to us, we rebuild it, test it, and send it back. Shipping both ways is included in the domestic shipping rates, so we will send you a pre-paid UPS label to get the unit to us.
Q. How long does the whole process take?
A. Most units take 1-2 days in the workshop, somecan take a little longer. Shipping can take 1-6 days each wayby UPS Ground depending on where you are shipping the unit from. We have faster shipping options available.
Q. How do you get the UPS label to me?
A. After you pay for the item we will generate a UPS label and email it to the address associated with your PayPal account. It usually only takes a couple of hours for us to do this, but we have to do this manually, so please allow up to one business day.
Q. Is removal ofthe clusteran easy procedure?
A. Unfortunately, we do not have any information on the removal of this cluster. We recommend that you take the vehicle to a mechanic to have the cluster removed.
Q. How do I package the unit?
A. As the unit contains delicate electronics and can be damaged in shipment, you will need topack it well.We recommend that you use a large box (so that there are about 4 inches of extra space on each side), wrap the unit in a layer of bubble wrap and fill in the extra space with packing peanuts. Don't forget to include your contact details in the box.
Q. Will I need special tools tocode my rebuilt unit?
A. No. Since we are rebuilding your unit, no coding will be required when you reinstall the cluster.
Q.Will the repair change my mileage?
A. No. Since we are rebuilding your unit, your mileage will remain the same.
Q. Can I drive the car while the cluster is being rebuilt?
A. No. The cluster contains part of the immobilizer system, so you will not be able to drive the car while the cluster is removed.
