Default Progress on my 2001 TTQR

Hi all:

I've enjoyed reading a lot here about my new (to me) 2001 TT Roadster. The information has been really helpful.

I have replaced the Coolant Temp Sensor (myself) with help from a write-up here. I'm also ready to install a Boost Gauge using Modshack's vent ring with a Revo gauge. Once that's done, I plan to chip the car with REVO software here in Denver. I've already installed a K&N filter and an APR R1 diverter valve. For what it's worth, the new APR R1 seemed to help pickup at the low end and definitely helped the turbo when it kicks in. My wife even noticed it right away when she drove it. Not planning to race it for sure, but for $500 bucks, the improvement in performance will be worth the fun.

The main reason I am posting is that I found an armrest that works pretty well for us. I just couldn't bring myself to spend over $400 for the Strat armrest even tho it really looks great.

Anyway, there is a company in Italy called Wood Company http://www.woodcompany.com(yeah, it is an English name). They make armrests for many, many cars including the TT. You have to order it from them and they quoted me 79 Euros plus 10 Euros for the aluminum look base. Shipping was UPS expedited for 25.5 Euros. So for about $170, I got a pretty good armrest. There was a US distributor called Quality Auto Interiors, but they are now out of business even tho their web site will take an order AND charge your card automatically. They charged my credit card even tho I emailed them to cancel the order. They won't answer emails or phone calls. My credit card company is reversing the charge. That's when I went directly to the Wood Company in Italy. You send them an email requesting what you want and they reply with a quote in Euros.

On their web site, they say the armrest is only available in dark grey or black real leather. After the order, I discovered they probably will make the armrest in any color... I probably would have liked light grey instead of dark grey which I got.

I'll upload a few pictures. Notice in the Roadster, the armrest will fold up IF it has been moved to the forward position. Wouldn't be a problem in the Coupe either way. I did get a cupholder which is in the storage compartment, but it is just as awkward as the original ones are in the TT. So, I decided to move the removed original TT cup holder forward and place it by the passenger seat and the center console using two short dowels attached with the original screws at a slight angle.

Anyway, this works for me especially since I didn't want to spend a bucket of money on an armrest... I'd rather get the chip!

Here's the basic armrest:

yeah cameras dont care too much about color, Ive been pulled over like 4 times (not yet in this car, though that might change when my chip comes in tomm or sat) but no tickets. tt's look good enough to pull of most colors, butblack is my favorite, though I can't let my car find out :-Pi guess you can throw a black stripe on your red car too see if the color the culprit ha.

Thanks!

Most people tell me it looks "almost" stock... maybe not for a TT but certainly for any other car. And, the new cupholder location really works well compared to needing to reach backward to get a cup in the rear location. Doesn't interfere with shifting at all.
