Umm yeah... Even I could hand tighten the lug nuts enough so they wouldn't fall off!

I almost had a wheel come off (again) yesterday. Let me say this-
IF YOU HAVE SPACERS, MAKE SURE YOU RETORQUE AFTER A FEW MILES.
This makes the second occasion I've had a wheel come loose because they weren't retorqued. They were torqued to the proper spec when they were installed. Once they've been retorqued, they're solid until I take them off again.
Fortunately this time, although I was 2 hrs from home, I was less than 2 miles from a relatives house, so I made a quick detour. I had to stop halfway and try to screw the bolts back in a bit to be sure I didn't lose the wheel or bolts completely.
Turns out, the stock tire iron will NOT fit in the recessed lugbolt holes in Flik rims, to my dismay, on the side of the highway.
Also a reminder for those running aftermarket rims, chances are, they require a conical lug bolt face, while the stock lug bolts are ball seat. If you get a flat with your aftermarket rim, you're not going to be able to bolt your spare onto the car unless you leave 5 stock lugbolts in the car for use with the spare.

I tried just putting them on hand tight once, and umm didn't turn out too well

Had 3 other guys in the car too (Picture a backseat smaller than the TT Coupe).
I had just changed a tire a few days earlier with a friend and guess we both thought the other torqued it.
So leaving a footbal game one night...
going around a corner it was like..ker - chunk, scraaaaaaaaaape, sparks, horror, wheelrollingpast us as I stopped. Luckily one of the class' smartest guys was with us so he had the brilliant idea to take one lug from each of the other wheels so we could put the wheel back on.
A lasting memory for us all.
