shift knob idea
Im not happy with the price or selections of the shift ***** that I see on the market. So Ive thought of an idea. Since my particular scheme is all black, Ive decided to use an 8 ball from a billiard set. I know what your thinking, "pretty tacky". but heres where mine would differ from the ones you've seen. I would start by finding a brand new 8 ball from a billiard supply store. then, I would flatten out the top of the ball with a belt sander(8 facing straight up) so that the 8 was completely gone, and there was enough space to add a metal gear pattern emblem(or the pattern on your stock ****). then go through the other 8, on the other side. To thread on to your shifter. This should be relatively cheap, and the ability to customize(different colors/pattern logo)would make this applicable to all different colors of cars. Since you can use any of the *****. Ive got a billiard supply place by my house. Im gonna get started. as you guys can see by my last few mods, Im trying to do everything "on the cheap".
theres a few nice black ones on this website- i had one of them installed for a while before i got my forge one...

very cheap and they come with the adaptor thread screws to make it fit.

I've been trying to get my **** off for 15min. I had it off before, but I think I overtightend it. Now when I try to turn it counter clokwise, the whole shifter wants to twist. This can't be good

All this work for a shift ****? Theres 1000's of shift ***** and you can't settle with one of those or maybe slightly modify one? So, you are going to waste a few hours trying to get this pool que to work, insted of paying $100? What is your time worth?
IMO this is the worst idea I have heard in a long time. 1. I wouldn't be suprized if it didn't work at at. 2. I would lol if it broke off during a shift. 3. How do you expect it to not look bad? It's prob not even a good size and going to be hard as hell to have on center/ stright. 4. A "classly" car with a home made shift ****? I could see it in a older car or like a t-bucket, but an audi?
Stick with the stock or get a good aftermaket ****. It sounds like you are doing this mod just to be different, not better.
Again, It's just my view point. More power to you if it's the best effing shift **** ever.
If it breaks off during a shift, then I'm as opinionated and misguided as yourself. The 8ball is going to the bowling alley to get a hole drilled. And jake.... You know nothing. I guess your lack of vision and creaivity are your issue. When I'm done. And it's awesome, you can tell me how much time I've wasted.
i think it's a good idea, but i think the ball might be a bit big.
and are you sure the inside of the ball is structurally strong enough?
The exacting requirements of the billiard ball are met today with ***** cast from plastic materials that are strongly resistant to cracking and chipping. Currently Saluc, under the brand names Aramith and Brunswick Centennial, manufactures phenolic resin *****. Other plastics and resins such as polyester (under various trade names) and clear acrylic are also used, by competing companies such as Elephant ***** Ltd., Frenzy Sports.
just a lil info for you, if it's just solid polyester i'd be worried that it would snap sooner or later.
a good idea, is to find a metal cylinder and drill/tap into that, then find a "top face" that you're looking for, and weld that sucker right to the metal cylinder. then drill a hole right through the 8ball, slide it onto it, glue it, epoxy it, or maybe even just slide it on there snugly and then mount it up! (you could make different colors and sized ***** if you wish this way.
just my .02 cents.
