Default Sluggish boost gauge?

All,
I recently installed an AWE boost gauge in my 02 225. I have no other mods, just prepping for a chip eventually. I have one question: Is my boost gauge supposed to be sluggish? By sluggish I mean that the needle never moves quickly in any direction. At idle its at around 20-22 Hg, and even when I floor it, it just slowly creeps up past the 0, and into the lower end of boost. But by the time I have to shift it hasnt even reached 10lbs. Any thoughts?

Thinking the line is kinked, or you hooked it up someplace weird. It should be quite responsive.

Should have Tee'd into manifold vacuum. Easiest place to do that is from the fuel pressure regulator's vac line. Believe on the 225 it starts near the throttle body and snakes along to the opposite end of the TB to the regulator, which looks like a 1" metal canister on the end of the fuel rail.

I haven't even considered installing a boost gauge on my 225 yet, so I don't really have a mental picture of the hose routing.

sounds like you have a kinked line or a leak!
Did you "T" it into the fuel pressure regulator? Check your line and if you didnt use the fpr to "T" it into id reccomend it as the source

Edit i didnt repeat the above we posted at the same time lol

Ok thanks guys. I did in fact "T" it to the FPR. I checked from the firewall forward for kinks or bends and couldnt find any, but I have to look from the firewall back into the cabin now to see if there is an issue there. Thanks for the help again, much appreciated.

From idle to full throttle the needle takes maybe 3/10ths of a second to get where it needs to go on my VDO. If you're using that crappy nylon tube that the kits come with get rid of it and get some proper vacuum line (rubber or silicone). The nylon stuff is very prone to kinks and leaks.

The AWE kit came with normal black rubber vacuum tubing so I don't think its an issue. Mine takes the full rev range and it still doesnt get to where it needs to go.. on the up or downswing on the needle its slow regardless.

Side question: About where should it be going to boost wise? I was thinking around 16-18 psi? The highest I have gotten it is 10, but if there is a kink or leak, the reading is bad regardless.

180 = 11psi
225 = 1bar
