Default So overheating while in stop & go traffic.

Twice tonight my car (180FWD)started to overheat. The first time I was about 45mins into city driving through DC. Temp hit the roof and the warning light/beep came on. I was at my destination so I parked it and let it idle for about 20mins. Temp settled back down some (2 ticks) and I turned it off and went where I was going. When I came back out the temp registered the tick below middle and rose to middle. Had about 20mins of stop and go again and temp gauge went up another tick. At that point traffic lessened and I could travel 20+ MPH. From this point on car was fine.

Any ideas? Should I just not worry about it.

Its been 7250 since my last oil change. Scheduled to go into dealer onFri to get it done (please don't flame me for this one. Its a matter of convenience this time.)

First check your coolent temp sensor. If its black change it to the green (i have one if needed) http://ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/page...tegory=Cooling

That is a big problem on many cars.

But why would someone give you crap about changing your oil at 7200 miles? I dont change it until atleast then. I will give you crap for the taking it to the dealer though. It really isntthat hard and can be done for ~$35 for 4qrts Mobil 1 and a good filter.

still when it was overheating you could smell it. you know that hot coolant smell.

That would be the smell of it boiling. You NEED to change it asap. PM me if you want the green one for cheap.

not to mention i curbed my back right rim tonight parking in the city too [:'(]!! the only reason that happened was because the valet refused to park my car with the high temp warning on.

If its actually hot, my thoughts go to a free spinning waterpump impeller. Not fun.

Good luck with it

just had the TB replaced 6500 miles ago.

had it done at the dealship. they are in the habit of using metal impellars these days right?

car drove fine yesterday. even in stop and go on the way home from work. actually the needle dipped below the midway mark in stop and go.
