For those of you with real tonneau covers...
the precisely NOT what I am looking for. That is a real, old-school tonneau cover. They're a pain in the *** to use and basically redundant since the car has a retractable canvas top. I'm looking for today's version, which is a hardshell that covers only the convertible top when down. It has aero bumps behind the seats, like those found on many new convertible sports cars. (250z, corvette, soltice, sky)

The OEM tonneau snaps in to the slots between the rear of the door and the front of the rear quarter panel. There is a "snap" built in to that, and a "button" on the body side (opposite the door) that is used to release the snap. The rear of the tonneau is only held in by straps and the geometry of the tonneau itself, which slips under the metal ahead of the trunk lid - the tonneau slips under this metal. Since the front is held in place by the snaps mentioned above, it cannot slip in any direction. You will never duplicate any of this until you have a real OEM part in hand to play with and get dimensions.
If you look right behind the top on each of your doors, there should be an "L" shaped slot that the front of the factory tonneau cover snaps/locks into. The tonneau cover has a small plastic, bracket that fits into those slots. Additionally, you should have an elastic band that holds the rear of the cover.
I agree with MCPaudi ^ that you'll have a hard time duplicating these movements. The latches are not available through the dealer, as they are an attached part of the original cover.

Hi All, I sold my 2002 TT Roadster, but still have the extra OEM
tonneau cover I bought as back-up. Just retired from military and the darn thing was boxed up in storage for a number of tours. Cleaning out my garage and looking to sell. $250. In great condition and even still in the packing box. I will take pics tomorrow and post, but need to pay my kids tuition so first to inquire gets priority.
