well i have the quattro and i love it. also i can just take out a fuse for it be fwd. i think when it comes down to it the fwd is faster on the highway. i'm not a 100percent sure but that is how it usally is becasue fwd wieght less and there are less tires distrubitin the power. but i've never driven a fwd. the only reason i would want the fwd is to burn up the tires but lets face it i would need to buy tires like everyweek if i had fwd. also i think the 225 only comes in quattro. i forgot all these things but i've had awd and i would never take anything else. it's def saved my life a couple times

We've all heard people say that AWD is king.
It's true.
It's hard to say which is faster, because the AWD TT comes in either the 180 or 225 HP version, where as the FWD only comes in the 180 version. If you look at the weight to power ratio, the 180 FWD has less moving parts, should be lighter, and should pull on a 180 AWD from a roll. The AWD should have the advantage from a dig due to traction limitations for the FWD. But that's in a perfect world, considering tire selection, equal driver abilities, gear selection, LSDs, etc.

Most agree that if you are looking to build a monster race car, a 180 Quattro can be gotten for cheaper. If you are looking for moderate performance, the 225 Q can be awesome with minor mods to stock components.

I think you said you're from PA. PA gets snow and has mountains. I was there for a month last winter with my 225Q and was glad for the peace of mind. Also was glad to be able to turn off ESP and spin donuts in the parking lot after work

I can't speak from experience, but a FWD may have the edge on the AWD as far as gas mileage goes. But remember, the AWD TT isn't full time AWD, so it will only vary by a slim margin, agian based on driver habits, driving style, etc. It may even be so small of a difference that you wouldn't really notice unless you're a tightwad.

Throwing my AWD TT into curves is awesome. With a Haldex controller and RSB, I can get oversteer easily and love the feeling of the car rotating around me. It may be hard to test drive a car and be able to do that though.

That's my .02

FWD is quick in a straight line and cheaper to mod and maintain. Those are the main benefits I'd say.

FWD Audi is just a VW in disguise.

I would think the answer depends on what you want. If you are looking for a daily driver with no need for the Quattro, get the FWD. It is still a very competent car. However, if you want a quick street car that can go through a lot of different situations quickly (rain, snow, etc.) I would get the AWD.

~Although I am a bit biased as I own a Quattro.

I also have a quattro. I have driven the FWD also. I feel the AWD seems to handle through corners better to my liking... I would also say the MPG is really no different, and the AWD will do much much better through weather conditions, and a 225 AWD will be worth more than the 180 when you go to sell it also.

FWD will get better mpg and pull on the awd version on the highway/roll. The 180fwd will also run faster 1/4 times than the 180awd with equal bolt ons. However, awd is awd. With more power, it give better traction, same with bad conditions. Cant say which is better, that is for you to drive and decide on what important to you and how you drive.

He can always put it in reverse & have a RWD option.
