when will it end?!
you kinda confuse me on this one....thier are two different things happening here....first you say the cam chain is making a sound(drivers side) then you say the timing belt area(passanger side) is making a sound...the part for the cam chain tensior is 180 from ecs. i dont see a reason to get a new chain unless its damaged...check for dings and chips...shouldnt be any but worth looking for. like stated above go back to the shop and explain whats happening
Dont feel to bad, I've put close to $7k into my car repairs in a 17 months.
These cars are money pits, all audi's are. - My A8L has problems all the time. - When I get near the end of the warenty I'm going to sell it or trade it in for a BMW.
I love my tt and will keep it forever, I've just about replaced everything.. haha. - But as for the Audi brand as a whole its questionable...
Just saying.
- I wish crap didn't always break! [X(]

I was gonna write a laundry list of things I've had to fix in my car since I've bought it but I'll just stick to the problem at hand.Today I changed my oil and replaced the spark plugs (NGKs are damn expensive). The shop gave me 10W-30 so I used that- I live in Hawaii so the temperature isn't anymore between 70 F and 85 F so I'm guessing that it's alright.
I thought the rattling sound started because of one morning a hubcap flew right into my car bumper and got sucked underneath, bounced around a bit then bounced away. I figured it was going to be a loose bolt or screwthat got jarred or something.
On Saturday morning, I took it to the shop so they can take a quick look at what was going on maybe they can help me narrow it down without having to pay $100 for diagnostics. I popped the hood and revved it to between 1500-2000 rpm and they started to say that it was from (standing in front of the car, facing the hood) the driver side and it's something to do with the tensioner for the timing CHAIN. He then pointed to a V20 VW 2door something (like an old GTI or something) and said that it was in for the same thing. Then he said "The parts alone was going to be 800 bucks." Now, I'm going oh ****, where am I going to get the money to pay for this round of repairs? Besides the car loan, a personal loan and a maxed out credit card, I don't want to spend more to fix this car -Maintenance is one thing but constant repars?
Back to today, I took out all the plastic shields/covers (under the hood and under the engine) and started investigating the rattling noise. It's definitely comming from the Passenger side inside of the timing belt (not chain) cover. I didn't want to mess with it but it looks like I have to take it back to the shop that did the timing belt change. If it's something new, then I'll find a way to pay for it but if it isn't, then hey, they SHOULD fix it, right?
Now come my question, disregarding the whole TIMING CHAIN senario earlier, What's in the timing belt replacement package that could cause a rattling sound at 1.5k - 2k rpm? And is it a good idea NOT to drive my car right now?
Again, Thanks for the help and support as always.
-OH YEAH, and the glove box latch has broken off and it's gonna cost 500 bucks to replace the whole box - another thing I still have to fix.
