Default $10,000 Service Estimate from Dealer? or should I try my luck somewhere else? [2001 A

I received this service estimate for my 2001 Audi A4 at a dealership after a check engine light went on and I needed a new key programmed.

What do you think?

Additional items noticed during inspection:
  • Valve cover & camshaft tensioner gaskets leaking ($1375)
  • Engine mounts collapsed ($1110)
  • Pollen filter dirty ($95)
  • Crankcase breather hose leaking ($475)
  • Coolant reservoir leaking ($190)
  • High pressure power steering hose leaking ($610)
  • Both catalytic converters failed ($3600)
  • Both left & right front outer cv boots torn ($495 each)
  • All 4 door speakers ($1450)

Plus original estimate of $398.45 (for oil change, check engine light diagnosis, key programming, and key battery)

Should I drop the coin?
Take it to different place?
Find a new car?

My current plan is to call around tomorrow for some more estimates.

Any ideas, experience, wisdom to share?

Holy ****!

He might as well just rob you with a gun. That's so ******* ridiculous, it would be funny if it weren't so outrageous.

Stay the hell away from that!

Yeah, that's HORRENDOUS. Take it somewhere else and get a second opinion.

ummm...I'll do all that for some beers and you pay the parts....the only really dicey thing are the engine mounts, but those can be fixed as well....

Find a good, reputable INDY (independent) shop that works on German cars and has a great reputation.....bet you it may be at least half or less.....

Holy cow.

For reference, a new cabin filter (listed there at $95) is somewhere between $10 and $20. A new coolant tank (there at $190) is anywhere between $20 and $40. Crankcase breather hose (listed at $475) is between $20 and $60. Etc. Etc., you get the idea.

And that's even IF those things aren't working, which many of them are likely working just fine so a replacement isn't needed at ALL.

Take it to an indy shop and see what they say is wrong.

By far the worst estimate I have ever seen.

That $95 pollen filter may be the worst. At least the other stuff requires labor. Guessing I could have the filter done in 30 seconds, and that includes taking it out of the package.

Was this at an actually Audi dealership? If so, I would contact AOA with that BS.
