Default 0-40 oil and filter deals for 1.8T?

Getting ready to do an oil change this weekend.

Can't find any of my local retailers that have both 0-40 synthetic and a filter for the 1.8!
Advanced has the Mobil 1 synthetic 0-40 and a Bosh extended filter for $30, but Bosh doesn't make a filter for the 1.8, and Advanced won't substitute the Mobil 301 filter.

I've been using Mobile 1 and the 301 extended filter.
But I'm thinking that I could use any major brand synthetic 0-40 and any major brand oversize filter (not the dinky ones) since I change both about every 4000 miles.

I'm curious as to what others are doing.

I get my oil from wal-mart. Shell Rotella 5W-40, fully synthetic, meets the specs.

I haven't had much luck remaining consistent with the filter. I've been doing short interval oil changes recently as I suspect my engine may have some "gunk". Most often I've been using the Purolator Gold filter that fits and have not had problems.

Yea, going with the 5W-40 does open up a lot more options on oil.

I use Napa Gold oil filters every time.

I had a 2.8. I used nothing but Purolator. The classic filter is 97% efficient and made in the USA and their Gold line is 99% efficient.

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't the owner's manual say that the 1.8L calls for 0W30 Synthetic? At least mine does for my 2001 A4 1.8L.
