Try it and see what happens. If you don't know the answer to this thats a little scarry.

Think a head from a 4.2 would fit on my 1.8t?

1.8t's have one cat bolted directly to your turbo and only have one head. 2.8's are V6's so they have 2 heads.

Hey it had to be done and I don't feel bad about it. Did you really think something from a 4 cylinder turbo would work on a v6. It would have taken just a little thinking or researching to answer your question. We get a lot of strange and stupid questions here that could have been solved by a little common sense or reading. I'm more than happy to help out a fellow audi noob with worthwhile topics, thats what forums are for. I didn't feel like typing out a long list of why it wouldn't work and apparently my previous answer worked.

To answer your question about a test pipe, I'm almost 100% positive there isn't a "test pipe" for the 2.8. You could delete the cats which would be fairly easy but there wouldn't be much gain from it. I don't know how hard it is to find headers for a 2.8 but that or an exhaust would be a better use of your money.
