And that's a fact. Some things are interchangeable.. But these arent Chevys or Hondas we are talking about.

If yours runs right now then just get another one and drop the engine in. Sell yours if you have to to do it. Then you get the nice 01 options.

Yeah, I'd sell both and buy something newer, unless the 30v has extremely low miles and your car is in better than perfect shape.

Its not the same as ghost said, the main difference is the subframe design, its possible to put in with a litte bit of modification if you have a lot of spare time on your hands.

Default to answer all ur questions bout wat i have for the swap

i have everything for the swap from the 30v motor, transmission, tranny wires, radiator and everything, the 01 A4 was damn near gutted out because my uncle dropped a S4 motor in dere wit two KO4 turbos, he didnt need any of the things u guys are saying im goin to have to buy, so literaly the most money im gonna spend is on new motor mounts, i have the complete ECU and Harness with wires and everything for the 30v, the 30v has 100k miles on the motor, its chipped so it doesnt have 192hp it has more like 228hp, my motor in my 96 A4 has a blown headgasket with 204k miles on it, my interior and body on my 96 A4 is immaculate for the fact that i do my own body work, and its painted pearl white with black hood and trunk... now u guys can talk more SH** all i wanna know is if its a direct fit with the motor mounts, basically will this engine fit in the same way as my 12v does....??? EXPERTS NEEDED

LOL, no it doesn't. It has more like 200-205hp. As for the equipment you have, if you have that much stuff, than you should have most everything you need. The engines should bolt up in roughly the same position I'd think, but PM Auditech79 to be sure. Remember though, if you have to rerun the chassis harness, you're going to be stripping your entire interior, right down to the bare chassis.

first off no ones talking ****. and to answer that question again. NO it is NOT a direct bolt-on fit. it WILL require some modification.

you only origionaly said you had only an engine (you didnt mention the blown head gasket, or the pile of parts you had, which would have changed my opinion). no you cannot take the engine out of yours and put in one from a 2001, its not that easy.

however if you have all the other parts you would also need to do it, the only other thing you need is labor, and if you want to supply that, then great -go for it.

your not going to get much more EXPERT then a dude who works on audis for a living, unless you fly over to germany and visit one of the engineers over at the factory.

BTW all a chip does for a 2.8 motor is tweak timing and fuel delivery. and you cant get huge gains by doing that. you may be able to get a little more timing advance if you ran some water/meth injection, but thats about it. you are probably more realisticly sitting just over 200hp.

i dont know much about 2.8's but id say go for it. ive seen a bunch of people swap 12V for 24V VR6 motors in VW's, i cant imagine it being that easy for them and being that much harder for us.

Hey boss, I own a 96 2.8 quattro, and have looked into this, the only difference in the engines, is the valves themselves, same transmission, same mounts, the only way to tell the difference between the motors is by the valve covers themselves, So I would say if you have the engine you can absolutely do the swap. I just finished gutting my Audi and everyone told me that it was a waist of time but now that I am done, I know this car inside out, from the sensors to recognizing which bolts go where to me that knowledge is worth the 30 hours of work cause now it's like lego with bolts. these cars are not as hard as people say in fact I find them easier you can almost change your transmission with only hex keys

let me know if you have any questions, and also buy a haynes manual for it this helped me with wiring diagrams.
