begin with more information. which cylinder(s), how bad, how often, ect... most of the time its ignition control module or coil packs. also, spark plugs will do it.

if you want people to chime in, like me, you need to provide more information. im sorry you have misfires, but theres not a thing in the world i can say about it until you give me what i need to know. it could literally be something as simple as a spark plug to as complicated as a burnt ecu or a shot piston ring. I, or anyone else for that matter, cannot help unless you spill the beans on exactly what is happening.

The most helpful thing would be to scan for codes, that will give us guidance. Is your check engine light solid or flashing? Does the car misfire at partial throttle? Only under full load?

Tech Guru double team.

And mattwaugh, posting additional threads will not help us get you sorted any quicker. Try to keep it to one thread please.

The CEL is solid all the time and it flashes only when the engine is under stressful situations. It seems to misfire between 2500 and 4500rpm while at greater than 50% throttle.

As you've probably figured out, the flashing occurs when the engine is misfiring. Either take the car to a shop and have the codes scanned or buy a VAGCOM cable on ebay for $10 and scan the codes yourself with VCDS Lite.

Once you have the codes, we can start to figure out the solution.

(I like that you put "misfiring" in your signature .)
