2.8 30v head removal ...need help

I would check your driver's side again. Valves are weaker than you think and if you put it back together you might find out they're not ok. But if they're good, you're a lucky bastard

ahhh screw u guys for raining on my parade i recheck i did bent like 4-6 valves i think crap .......if you know where i can get a cheap used one let me know ... i thought those marks were the normal indents on the pistons until you guys made me recheck it ...the valves look fine but there not closed all the way i assume because there bent and not the postion on the cam ..should i try turning the cams and see what happens or are they bent ?

also i should be cool just switching the head rite ? and sanding the impact marks

it doesn't look like those marks on the pistons will be easily sanded out. if you do sand them down, the balance on the engine will be totally off. talk to mike@dth, he'll be able to tell you more in detail what you need and where to get it.

better we ruin your day now then after you put it all back together.

i wouldnt really go out and buy used valves, i think purems.com sells individual valves so you only need to replace the ones that are bent. its best to take it to a machine shop and have it done because you dont know if you messed up the valve guides too or damaged the sealing area.

the marks on the pistons are pretty bad, if you could get a better close up picture of how deep they are we could better tell you if they are salvageable or not. you may be doing a complete tear down in the near future....


edit: it also looks like you will be replacing all of your exhaust valves. from that picture it looks like all 6 are bent.

i was gonna buy a rebuilt head,or a used one i figure it would be cheaper than messing w/ mine ...ill take better pics asap ...im ******* poor so i dont know what im gonna do so if theres anyone in so cal down to come peep it out that would be a big help aswell im in ontario i'm willing to compensate you for your time ...also if anyones got a 2.8 motor lying around i guess i may be i need of one

you need 5, possibly 6, of these

the center cylinder exhaust valve on the right looks not bad. hard to tell 100% from a picture though. the other 5 are definitely screwed up.

you also will need new head bolts ($3 each), a timing belt kit, a cam chain tensioner, valve cover gaskets, head gaskets, and hopefully not much else. maybe new valve guides. need a better pic of the piston tops to tell if you can reuse those.

i cant believe how expensive 2.8 cam chain tensioners are. the one for my 1.8 was like $250 and you guys need two of them and they cost $550 each?! i feel bad for you guys. hopefully you can reuse yours.

good lord ...i should have bought a new audi ..lol.. im hoping i can reuse mine ...heres shots of the pistons ..i hope its ok news i mean worst case id like to just get it running so i call sell it

the top pic doesnt look terrible. the second one has some pretty deep gouges, your going to have a hell of a time sanding down the rough spots, but you can try. just make sure you clean out all the metal shavings very well.

get some 300-400 grit sand paper and take that lip down so that its level with the rest of the surface of the piston. do that on all the spots. clean off the deck and cover the oil and water passages and other two pistons with tape so you dont get any shavings in there while your working.
