I just got this car and was wondering if anyone else had a roughness in the rpms after 4k - its smooth until it gets into the higher rpms

 

Mine is smooth all the way through the tach.

 

thinking then my balancer is taking a poop

 

Balancer?

 

the harmonic balancer

i.e. crankshaft pulley

 

Are you sure it's not misfiring? What condition are the plugs in?

 

just put new plugs and wires in. i did feel a slight stumble at idle but no codes are being thrown. - i have a new coil on the bench i can pop in to rule that out

if you rev it in neutral, shes all butter which after reading what i wrote makes me now rule out the pulley

 

+1 At 4K RPM you gotta wonder if it's missing.

 

No CEL? Have access to VAG-COM? It's very good at showing misfires.

 

i do and will check that.

it revs fine in park but has a vibration under load
