Just got my timing belt/water pump/tensioner kit today, there was no gasket for the water pump. It has an O-ring, but no paper gasket that would sit between the block and the pump. I've talked to ECS twice now, and some guy just told me that it doesn't come with one. I cannot believe it would be metal to metal contact there. Are they goofed, or am I?

No gasket, the o-ring is sufficient

 

yep, just the oring. so technically it isnt metal to metal. its metal to rubber to metal. and i hope you got a water pump with a metal impellar

If your car is a 2000 it's an ATW, sounds like you bought an AWM timing belt kit...

 

oh ****. i didnt notice. yeah, if you bought an awm kit it is wrong. the atw kit needs a gasket. if you did not receive a gasket, gasket maker should work fine

 

I had the same question. I have a 2001 A4 AWM and there is no gasket, just an o-ring. So thanks for the answer.
