2000 Audi a4 questions

Really interested in buying a Audi a4 1.8t quattro 5spd with around 80k on it.Everyone on here seems to be the friendly sort from what i have been reading.I would just like to know what to look out for and check and ask and what not.I'm no stranger around cars and have no problem working on them.Always have owned nissans and subarus so this audi will be new to me.Thanks in advanced

bring the car to a mechanic for a pre-sale inspection

Good link :)
Most important thing and your due. Timing belt package. Ask, and have them provide records of replacing with this kit. Includes all the belts new water pump and tensioners. Have all the bushings underneath checked out including the control arms. Ask if they have been running synthetic which they should. 1.8s like to sludge. Check the wheels and listen to any abnormal noise pointing to bad wheel bearings. Best to pay the $20 or so bucks to a mechanic and have them put it up on a hoist and point out these items for him to check.

Getting it inspected isn't going to be a problem i work for nissan so i can have one of my technicians look at it.I just needed to know specific things for them to look for thanks

Are they really that bad?I drove it and the car feals great. But im just watching my paycheck flying away looking at all the stuff that are common problems on these cars

Interceptor Mar 18, 2009 08:29 PM

I wouldn't say they are bad they just need attention. Some more than others. You have to keep up on these cars or they will keep up on you. Our B5s are up there in age now and it would be the same with any other foreign car that old.
I think the main thing that scares people away from Audi's and this imo, the timing belt.

Audi's take some pampering... preventative maintenance is the key.
