The 170hp 2001 got that extra 20hp because Audi bumped up the boost to 11-12psi vs the 8psi found on the pre-2001 car.

The 2001 also got a different engine, it is the 06A which has the internal water pump. The pre 2001 cars came with the 058 engine which is external water pump and a oil pump shaft that sits in the spot where the internal water pump is located in the 06A.

There were changes to the K03 in 2001 but it is not a real K03s, that turbo was found on the Tranverse cars only. The 2001's dont actually end up making more power if the boost is the same. If they did then it wouldn't have been very hard for a 2001 owner to make the 250hp I was able to make with my 2000, but that hasn't happend in the 9 years since I make that much power with a K03.

If you own a 2001 then you have a 06A AWM engine. If you are looking for a timing belt kit for your 2001, there are 2 different kits and there is a split in the Vin #'s to figure out which one you need.

Here is the info for the 2 different timing belt kits
•A4 Q 1.8 from '01 thru Ch#8D-1-042384 ('01) W/AWM Engine
or
•A4 Q 1.8 from Ch#8D-1-042385

If you have any questions about this stuff feel free to PM me.

So my 2001 AWM 1.8t engine is throwing a P0410 code. bank 1 under efficient (or something to that effect). Dealer recommends replacing the pre-cat o2 sensor.

All the local auto parts places sell me the 4 wire sensor. But it turns out that this is a 5 wire sensor. the parts folks look it up and tell me that the 5 wire o2 sensor was not used until 2002!

They're wrong. 2001s used it. It's a wideband sensor. Bosch LSU 4.2. I'd order it online - way cheaper.

Just watch out because the ones on line have a shorter cable then the OEM one from the dealer.

Did all of the 2001's (1.8t) use it, or was it a mid-year mod? Several different stores quoted me the same part.

Thanks

Check your engine code. If you have an AWM then it uses the WB. If ATW then not. But I think all 2001s used AWM.
