Default '96 a4 2.8 quattro

Got myself a used A4 about a week ago...
like the subject says:
1996 A4 2.8L quattro
got it with 109k miles,
$4800
hopefully i'll get a picture uploaded soon..

car's in excellent shape, in and out... but a few problems...
I've read most of the posts within the first few pages, and they've been extremely helpful, thanks to all of you.
If I bring up a question that's already been answered, i apologize in advance...

my fuel guage.... starting from around 1/3 of the tank or below,
the needle suddenly bottoms out and the fuel light turns on,
usually when i accelerate or go uphill (guessing cuz of the placement of the measuring device).
when i brake and go downhill, the needle pops back to level...
I know the previous owner's been a cheap *** and used regular gas (87) instead of the recommended premium(91+).
Could this be the reason why? I've put in 3 bottles of Lucas fuel system cleaner, 1 per tank of course...
I think now it happens near 1/4 tank.... any others having the same problem??

Also, my check engine light is on, probably will take it to autozone for a scan as many have advised.

i seem to be running a bit rich... not sure if it's just cuz it's cold or because i've been used to Honda's ULEV...

If there are any tips/tricks/things I should be careful for.... I'd appreciate your input...
just enjoying the mind boggling gap between a civic and an A4 for now...

I would... cept my credit card is maxed out from the car ^^;;;;
the car was actually up for 5500, but thanks to the fact that
it's been maintained by my mechanic ever since the warrantee ended (dealer maintained before that)
and because I only had $48xx left on my card.. ^^ saved $700 more

I have written a how-to on how to fix your fuel gauge.

https://www.audiforums.com/m_20295/tm.htm

Def. go to autozone to have your car scanned for codes. And yes, there is no such thing as a supercharger for a 95-97 A4.

indeed, a Vag-Com should be your FIRST tool you buy if you plan on working on your own car. In what aspect would you like to be enlightened? lol
