Default '99 a4 quattro rear end noise?

I test drove one yesterday and thought I heard a noise. Sounded like a noise you would get going over rough pavement, but it was constant above 20 mph. Is some noise normal due to the quattro system?

Thoughts?

Thanks

Could also be an uneavenlly worn tire, if you could narrow it down to what side rub your hand along the tire to feel it. Before i got wheels my right rear tire was horrable. You could look at it and see how uneven the treads were. IF not the tires i would suspect a failing wheel bearing.
