A4 Timing Belt Issues - Help
I have a 1998 A4 1.8t that recently broke a timing belt resulting in severe engine damage. Through a bit of online research I have noted this is a big problem for the '98 1.8t.

Also, the timing belts are breaking around 65-70,000 miles, which is well short ofAudi reccomended replacement at 90-105,000 miles. Audi Corporate has a history of sweeping this problem under the rug.

MY QUESTION: Has anyone ever experienced any timing belt problems (or had friends with same issue) and tried to go through Audi Corporate to get assistance with engine repairs??

Does anyone have any recomendations? Any help in this matter would be a greatly appreciated!!

Sorry to hear of your problem. I can't assist on the belt vs.mileage issue but I can tell you that Audi is not the only automaker that is willing to sweep issues under the rug. I've done battle with a couple domestic manufacturers and it's an uphill battle.

Consider the cost of repairing it is on you. You're going to have to make a decision as to whether you're willing to invest the time to begin a call/letter campaign to Audi based on principle. I have found that dealers regional managers usually are the ones willing to listen the most.

many people have tried the route with Audi North America, and very few have gotten anything out of it.
You have to chaulk it up to bad luck on your part. What was the mileage yours broke at? If it was like 20K then you might be able to get somewhere... but your car is a 98 and I don't see much of a bright light at the end of that tunnnel...
