Default absolutely the dumbest question possible.

I've always used ramps but this car is too low to get onto my ramps, now comes the dumbest question ever asked on this forum, I'm sure.

Where do I put the floor jack under the car to jack it up for jack stands? differential?

I don't want a hole in my floor hahaha

thanks

(jacking the front end up for an oil change)

Yeah I just need to lift up the front end so I can change the oil, first oil change since owning it... It's black and actually burns or leaks oil somewhere it was over a quart low earlier today

I'm assuming it has leaky valve cover gaskets, but you lift up the rear?

Good to be cautious cuz you really don't wanna just jack anywhere then as you put it, a hole on the floor.

You can get jack adapters from ECS and use the pinch welds if they haven't bent yet.

I put the jack stands in the inner side of the pinch weld since mine are bent. I jack the car at the factory jack points.

Search in the B5 section as others and myself have posted about this. There should be some pictures. Search with "jack stand points" or something like that.

I saw somewhere (can't remember what forum) a guy got a hockey puck and cut a groove in it with a dremel for the pinch weld and put the hockey puck on his jack. Seems like a good idea to me I might try it sometime

Alright thanks guys, ill do a little searching later hopefully find some pics, so I should just use the floor jack and jack up one side at a time, put a jack stand in place then move to the other side and repeat rather than using the floor jack in the center at all?

I use ramps. I just put a couple of 3 foot 2x6's before the ramp and up on the first rung and it works like a charm. Mine doesn't bottom out. I guess it depends if you are lowered or not.

ramps for oil changes and stands for about everything else.

My pinch welds are still good so I use those.

Theres a bunch of opinions on it of course-

My housemate found a pair of low pro car ramps for his Legacy GT and they seem to work great for his GT and my B5. I was in the same boat before with my old steel ramps designed for a truck, definitely smart to ask, a hole in the floor or a smashed lower valance aren't something you wanna add to your to do list.

ramps are great for everything, i would prefer them over jack stands because they are much much more stable, even if you have to jack up the cap to get the ramps under, its worth it.
