Aftermarket HU with harness install, need help

Hey guys, i just received my new headunit and i bought the bose harness since i got the bose system, heres the wires i have,

http://imageshack.us/a/img696/5316/i...1109053412.jpg

http://imageshack.us/a/img171/3391/i...1109053419.jpg

and this is the harness i need to connect wires to for my HU

http://imageshack.us/a/img837/4200/i...1109053401.jpg

Since i have the bose, i do not need to connect the white/gray wires for the speakers right? Im just gonna use the rca plugs? Also they tell me to put the blue wire in the harness above the yellow one, Is it the blue wire from the first pic that goes to the 2nd harness in the 2nd pic? They tell me to put it there and it will lock in place with the brass connector but it doesnt stay in place at all and im pretty sure its not the good way.

Also my head unit only has 2 rca output in the back, what do i do with the 4 rca connectors (purple, white, green, gray) which one do i plug into my headunit?

The 3rd pic shows the harness for the HU so i just match up the black, yellow, red, and thats it? the others wires on the HU harness does nothing since im plugging the other harness with the RCA for the rear amp right? They will control all my speakers if i understand

Sorry for all the pics and i searched and its a mess lol.

Lewis666 11-09-2012 05:47 AM

Also the Headunit harness comes with a big ground, Do i just cut it and match it with the black wire on the custom harness or i need to ground it somewhere?

Lewis666 11-09-2012 09:38 AM

This is the connectors i got in the car,

http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/6...1109092640.jpg

I believe the one at the bottom is my antenna wire?

It had an aftermarket HU before and he didnt remove his antenna only the harness.

Also the blue/yellow/green connector, what does it do? I only need to plug my harness in the brown and black one right?

Sorry for all the questions im kinda lost. heh

The first harness with the RCA plugs into the multi colored harness.

http://imageshack.us/a/img696/5316/i...1109053412.jpg ---->http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/6...1109092640.jpg

The other two plug into the other two. The tabs will only allow one to go in the other so there is no way to screw that up.

The blue/white wire is the remote turn on for your amp so connect the blue/white wire from picture 1 to the blue/white wire in your third diagram.

http://imageshack.us/a/img696/5316/i...1109053412.jpg---->http://imageshack.us/a/img837/4200/i...1109053401.jpg

If you only have 1 set of RCA coming out of your deck you are going to run into problems. You can either get a set of Y splitters and connect them to the output of your deck and then to the front and back channels from the harness in the first picture. You will lose front to back fading but at least you will have sound out of both sets of speakers. Either that or take back your new deck and get the next model up with 2 sets of RCA's.

You can cut the ground from the head unit and attach it to the ground on your wiring harness.

Good luck.

Thanks alot for the input doug, ill try this out.

Lewis666 11-10-2012 10:47 AM

Just one more thing, in the bag of the harness i had a paper like this:

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/3...1110104339.jpg

Do i need that blue wire, i dont wanna make a conflict with the K line and on the wire it says that it will conflict.

This is the blue wire they tell me to put into the harness connector:

http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/3...1110104840.jpg

Also if i understand right, i do not need to plug the gray/white wires from the harness to the HU harness since i use the rcas?

Thanks again for all the help you make my day lol.

Which connector is the blue and white wire from in the picture above? If there is a blue/white wire on the orange connector in the same pin location as the switched pin in the multi colored connector corresponding to the diagram below then you don't need the blue/white wire.

http://www3.telus.net/~dougkong/Audi/Symphonyrear.jpg

It looks like it already is present in this diagram. Please confirm if it is a separate second wire or one in the same wire.

http://imageshack.us/a/img696/5316/i...1109053412.jpg

It looks like it might be the power antenna wire according to the wiring pin out diagram in the first picture.

Its a seperate wire i had in the bag with the bose harness and the piece of paper that i showed you. They tell me to put it above the yellow wire on my harness ( the second one in my first post, the harness that connects to the brown and black connector) but theres only one blue/white wire coming from the HU harness and its for the blue/white wire on the rca harness ,right?

If i need that other blue wire, i got no other blue wire to match it to. The guy had a pioneer deck in the car before and if you can see in the pic of the connectors of my car theres already the plug for the antenna so it might have power to it already? I can see a bunch of wires and electric tape coming from that antenna wire.

Trying to understand the diagram you posted with the circled stuff but im lost lol.

Cybersombosis 11-10-2012 11:13 PM

Sorry about the circles. I used an old diagram from another post I made.

If you take this diagram
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/3...1110104339.jpg
and turn it 90 degrees and match up the circled tabs on both pictures
http://www3.telus.net/~dougkong/Audi/Harness3.jpg<-->http://www3.telus.net/~dougkong/Audi/Harness4.jpg
You get A matching up with A which looks like the power antenna, not THE antenna. i.e. it would be the wire used to signal your power antenna to be extended if you had one. Since we don't use this wire, your extra blue/white wire is not needed.

Alright thanks a lot ill try to wire everything on monday on my day off. Ill let you know if everything goes fine,

again thanks, ur the man xD

Lewis666 11-13-2012 09:17 AM

Heres the update, i got everything wired together and bought x2 Y splitters for the rcas.

I got power on the radio and the antenna works great but i only got sound in the back and its really deep like i have no treble at all. and even with the sound to max i cant almost hear anything. I tried to play with the splitters and switch them on the deck with no success.

Ill show you a pic how everything is wired atm:

http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/5...1113090747.jpg

On the instructions they told me to not use the speaker wires since i have 4 rcas, is it my problem? The only wire i got from the HU harness connected is the ground, the yellow, the red one and the blue/white for the remote turn on. Am i missing some wires theres?

The front is not working at all and the rear is playing so deep lol.

I know the guy had subwoofers there before and i still got the plugs near my radio, could it be making a conflict somewhere?

Thanks

Lewis

Lewis666 11-13-2012 09:22 AM

I know i got stamped Bose system on my doors but could it be that i have the non-bose or something and i need to connect those gray/green/white wires from the hu to have sound in the front?

It almost sound like my amp in the back is fried or something isnt connected right. The sound isnt clear at all and it plays like a loud sub heh.

Its like the Headunit ( or the amp?) doesnt send any sound to the front speakers and only send a little signal to the back.

Lewis666 11-13-2012 09:52 AM

Heres a pic of the wires i got in the trunk if that can help you. Pretty messed up heh.

http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/6...1113093637.jpg

Theres is a plug in the trunk that looks like its connected to the amp and its not connected to anything else, where does that plug go? maybe my amp is not powered since he had an aftermarket amp with subs
The plug that i circled in red is connected to nothing and it looks like it go the rear amp on the left upper side of the trunk, its the amp right?

I was under the assumption that you had the Bose system and were upgrading from that to an aftermarket deck. Well that was until you started to show pictures of another aftermarket system removed. I have no idea what the previous owner did so unless you can figure out what those extra wires are by tracing back to the source, I won't be of any help.

What I would recommend is hooking up the speaker level wires from this
http://imageshack.us/a/img837/4200/i...1109053401.jpg to this http://imageshack.us/a/img171/3391/i...1109053419.jpg
and see how that goes. Who knows how this guy had it hooked up. Also if you do indeed have the Bose system, the amp will be located under the rear deck on the drivers side which looks something like this
http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...0/IMG_0581.jpg

If you don't have anything that looks like this then it was removed when the previous owner installed all his stuff. If you can't figure out what he did then you will have to rewire it all. Good luck.

Lewis666 11-14-2012 05:29 AM

Alright ill try to wire the speaker wires that was my next step.

I know he had 2 subs and an aftermarket amp in the back. Im just wondering the connector in my last picture is OEM and it should go somewhere, it has a blue wire attached to it and its not connected anywhere. He had the amp back there and this was connected to it prolly. even if i have the non-bose or something, it should be connected somewhere, where exactly is located the rear amp? can you show me a picture because the rear deck means nothing to me lol, sorry my first language is french and im doing my best heh.

I know what most of the wires are, if you look in the first picture of the trunk where the wires are, the big brown one goes to the battery, that was prolly his main power for the amp, theres two rca connectors , that was for the sub (i can see them behind my deck on the front), the only wiring that i dont know where it go is the last one, and its coming from the speaker in the trunk(like i showed u circled in red in my last picture in my last post. This and the other little blue wire that is not connected to anything, thats the 2 wires i dont know what they do. The OEM plug should go somewhere its coming from the speaker so that would explain why i only got a little sound on the back.

Ill try to wire the speaker wires and let you know how it goes.

Thanks again for the help

Lewis666 11-14-2012 09:42 AM

Update: i plugged the speaker wires (gray/white) for the front with the HU harness and the fronts are working perfectly, now i just need to find what the previous owner did with the back lol. Ah well... at least i got some sound now xD
