Default "AIR BAG" warning light on after a dead battery. Why??

Hello all,

After a very hard winter in Ireland (-12*C, very cold for Eire) my battery died. I hadn't driven the car in at least 2 weeks so I expected as much. However after I took the battery out and recharged it with a stand alone charger my car thankfully starts but my "AIR-BAG" warning light is now on.

Has anyone any ideas as to why this would happen and if so any ideas on how to rectify this issue?

Any and all ideas are welcome.

Thanks guys.
Shane.

same problem although i dont know if its a battery issue, ive been told that theres a airbag relay under the front passangers seat that can become damaged easily... i havent looked into fixing it yet but will soon.

It might just be an intermittent code that resulted from power loss. If you can, clear the code (with VAG-COM or similar) and see if it comes back.

Control module error code is my guess, but you wont get it to go away, or find out what it is unless you scan for codes with a vag com....

So you think the control module went bad just from the battery losing power?

As far as I know, it was somewhere around 2000 or 2001 that had shitty airbag computers, they often had the problem of gaving the "hard" (non resettable) internal control module error. I have also heard that if the problem repeats you should check the power source. One possible cause is if power is cut during its self test. But thats just a guess, half of the reason for my guess is that the control module error is the second most common code for airbag computers around that year, and given the unusual timing my guess is its that code, but we wont know for sure until you scan it for codes.

And theres no airbag electrical "relay", there is a wiring connector underneath both front seats for the side seat airbags... these are the most common problem, the airbag computer is very sensitive to airbag and wiring resistance. So, if the connector becomes loose or even slightly corroded you get that code, but given the timing of this airbag light my guess is this isnt it, but you never know.

And is it just me or does another "add a car to your garage" link appear everytime someone posts? And sorry for the triple post.
